FloWrestlers of the Week: Austin DeSanto & Riley Lefever
Exeter's Austin DeSanto upset three-time world and state champion Spencer Lee and Wabash's Riley Lefever made Division 3 history by winning his fourth national title.
It was a weekend of incredible feats. Exeter's Austin DeSanto claimed the upset of a year to win his first and only Pennsylvania state title over three-time world and state champion Spencer Lee, and Wabash's Riley Lefever made NCAA Division III history by winning his fourth national title.
Lefever is just the second wrestler in DIII history to become a four-timer. The other four-time champ is Marcus LeVesseur, who is now an MMA fighter in the UFC. But Lefever didn't just finish off his outstanding career; he put an exclamation point on it with a fall in 4:52 over Carlos Toribio of Ithaca to win his final title at 197 pounds.
DeSanto shocked the wresting world as he claimed the winning takedown in the final seconds of the bout to defeat the reigning champ, Lee. A Drexel commit, DeSanto finished his season at 53-0 with 188 wins against just seven losses.
Both Austin DeSanto's and Riley Lefever's resounding way of putting a stamp on their careers makes the Co-FloWrestlers of the Week presented by Cliff Keen.
