The 2017 college coaching carousel continues to spin. Nick Simmons will not be returning to the Indiana University next season after five years on the coaching staff, including four as associate head coach.

Simmons officially joined the Hoosiers as an assistant coach on June 4, 2012, shortly before the London Summer Olympics. Simmons was an alternate on the US national team after finishing second at the Olympic team trials.

Simmons made the US freestyle team in 2011 at 55kg and finished fifth at the World Championships in Istanbul.

Indiana will continue to be led by current head coach Duane Goldman, now entering his 26th year on the job.

Travis Pascoe is still listed as an assistant head coach for Indiana, along with Matt Powless as a volunteer assistant.

The job of associate head coach has been posted on the Indiana University jobs website.

There has been no word from the university on who any candidates for the open position might be, but one potential target could be Angel Escobedo. The Hoosiers alumnus was a four-time NCAA All-American and 2008 national champion. Escobedo also has freestyle experience, making the US team in 2013 and finishing fifth at the 2013 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Simmons made a name for himself at Michigan State, where he was a four-time All-American. The Williamston, Michigan, native earned the nickname "The East Lansing Strangler" for his punishing head locks and top game.

Simmons will be moving back to East Lansing, MI, and currently has no plans to return to college coaching.

Simmons can be seen in the video below, employing his signature spladle on a hapless Moldovan victim at the 2011 World Championships.
