Thomas Gilman Coming To Last Chance Qualifier
Thomas Gilman will be wrestling at the last chance qualifier in Rochester, Minnesota this Saturday
Thomas Gilman will be making his return to freestyle wrestling this weekend. He has officially registered for the Last Chance Qualifier, which will be LIVE on Flo this Saturday at 9:00am central time.
While Gilman will not get a high seed since he hasn't competed in three years, it is notable that he swept Nathan Tomasello two years in a row to make the junior world team. At the 2014 trials in Wisconsin, Tomasello sat in the best-of-three finals after winning the Open, but Gilman won the challenge tournament and then beat NaTo twice in a row by scores of 3-2 and 8-4.
Now that he has graduated from Iowa, Gilman will be wrestling at 57kg for the Hawkeye Wrestling Club, who just picked up a new head coach earlier this week in Mark Perry. The HWC has been without a lightweight as Tony Ramos is now at UNC and Dan Dennis appears to have retired. Gilman was a three-time All American and NCAA finalist during his time with the Hawkeyes.

Gilman made two junior world teams and a cadet world team, winning a junior bronze medal in 2014. He was a part of one of the most notable junior world teams of all time, as America finished with six medals in eight weights and were second place overall as a team. That year, he beat Reza Atri of Iran in the quarterfinals, who just won a a bronze medal at the Asian championships.Thomas Gilman will be competing at the last chance qualifier in MN to punch a ticket to Lincoln NE in June! #Gilman
