No. 6 Anthony Montalvo has committed to wrestle for the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Anthony Montalvo will be the latest star from the Golden State to be a Cowboy. The California state champ announced his decision to attend Oklahoma State on social media today. [tweet url="https://twitter.com/__montaco32/status/913611014641410048" hide_media="0" hide_thread="1"]
Montalvo is ranked 6th at 182lbs. Heading into his senior year at Buchanan high school, he projects as a 184 pounder at the next level.
The future Poke won NHSCA sophomore nationals back in 2016, beating Anthony Walters (No. 6 at 197) in the finals, and was the state runner-up earlier that year. We rated the two-time Doc B champ as the nation's No. 54 overall recruit on our most recent Class of 2018 Big Board.
Montalvo's NHSCA win over Walters
He is the first Top-100 recruit for Okie St in this class. There is a possibility coach John Smith and the Cowboys staff could want Montalvo to shrink down or bulk up. Jacobe Smith is a junior at 174lbs, so Montalvo could redshirt and slot in after Smith graduates. Up at 197, Preston Weigel is also a redshirt junior. Meanwhile, redshirt freshman Keegan Moore is a 184 pounder and could wind up being the starter as early as this year.
