Complete recap of the 14u division at the 2016 ACS Liberty Nationals.
The 2016 Liberty Nationals took place this past weekend where more than 230 wrestlers competed for the title in the 14 and Under divisions. Leading the way were a pair of Junior High Big Board Members in Cole Skinner (No. 50) and Kellyn March (No. 23) who both took home titles.
Here, we breakdown the top place winners in each of the twenty-two competing weight classes.
70-pounds
Brandon O’Brien from Iowa took home the 70-pound title with a pair of decisions. He defeated 2nd place finisher Guy Clevenger of Oklahoma 7-2 and John Morgan of Michigan 7-0 in the three man bracket.
75-pounds
Taking home the title in the 75-pound weight class was Camden Maestas of Kansas who defeated Bryce Cockrell of Oklahoma and Deegan Gugitt of Missouri in the three-man round robin.
80-pounds
Braxton Brown, one of the top wrestlers in Texas, captured the 80-pound title with a 7-3 decision over Jackson Cockrell of Oklahoma. Battling back for the bronze was Kai Allen of Kansas who defeated Tyler Murphy of Missouri 4-2.
85-pounds
Flo Jr. High Big Board member, Cole Skinner, dominated the 85-pound bracket as he posted a perfect 3-0 record. He won the title with a 19-4 tech fall victory over Preston Martin of Kansas. Eli Griffin of Oklahoma won third place with a 10-0 major over Jackson Eller of Colorado.
90-pounds
Illinois State Champion, Vincent Zerban, won the 90-pound title with a 11-4 decision over Peyton Kellar of Ohio. Battling back for the bronze was Emilio Haynes of Nebraska who pinned Jason Henschel of Kansas in :35 seconds.
95-pounds
Flo Kickoff Classic Champion, Kellyn March, added another title to his resume as he took home the 95-pound title. The Jr. High Big Board member defeated Wisconsin State Champion, Jalen Spuhler of Wisconsin 5-4. Khyler Brewer of Missouri used a 9-1 decision over Tommy Lear of Michigan to win the consolation finals.
100-pounds
Taking home the 100-pound title was Keega Slyter of Kansas who used a 9-7 decision over Branden Elrod of Oklahoma to capture the title. Winning the bronze was Brandon Madden of Kansas who defeated Jaden Two Lance of Texas 10-0.
105-pounds
Ryder Ramsey of Oklahoma won the 105-pound title with a 3-2 decision over Jacob Holt of Kansas. Wrestling back for the bronze was Bryce Brown of Nebraska who defeated Chayse LaJoie of Michigan 3-2.
110-pounds
Cayden Henschel of Wisconsin posted a perfect 5-0 record en route to the 110-pound title. He used a 3-1 decision over Lucas Benn of Wisconsin to capture his 7th title of the New Year. Bringing home the bronze was Zachary Carpenter of Texas who pinned Nolan Craine of Kansas by fall in :26 seconds.
115-pounds
Colorado State Champion, Drew Eller, took home the 115-pound title with a dominating 20-1 tech fall victory over Obi Smith of Arkansas. Bryce Mattioda of Oklahoma fought back for the bronze medal as he defeated Aidan Nutter of Wisconsin 3-0.
120-pounds
Elan Heard of Ohio pinned Torey Coleman of Michigan in the finals of the 120-pound weight class to take home the title. Battling back for the bronze was Chase Warden of Texas who defeated Cole Roark of Missouri 4-0.
125-pounds
Winning the 125-pound bracket by an 8-3 decision was Anthonie Taylor of Michigan who defeated Tyson Moore of Missouri. Josh Pietarila of Tennessee won the consolation bracket with a 4-3 decision over Traeton Saint of Wisconsin.
130-pounds
The 130-pound weight class was won by Ross Arch of Missouri as he defeated Rocky Elam of Missouri 2-0. Shamus Mclain of Wisconsin won third with an 8-0 major over Caleb Fish of Michigan.
135-pounds
Winning the 135-pound title was Trevor Christian of Missouri who defeated Justin McCunn 10-1. McCunn held onto second when he defeated Matthew Grant of Michigan 7-2.
140-pounds
Ohio standout, Nevan Snodgrass, captured the 140-pound title with an 8-5 decision over Gage Fritz of Kansas. Jake Weller of Oklahoma took home the bronze with a 4-3 decision over William Ahnen of Wisconsin.
145-pounds
Missouri’s Jackson White won the 145-pound championship by recording a 10-8 decision over Nicholas Bahm of Kansas. Taking home the 3rd place price was Roman Bushek of Missouri who scored a 9-5 decision over Brendan Fenstermaker of Michigan.
155-pounds
Tyler Hannah of Wisconsin captured the 155-pound title with a victory by fall over Zeno Marcheselli of Oklahoma. Eli Jansen of Nebraska was able to wrestle back and win the bronze with a 5-0 decision over DJ Smith of Wisconsin.
165-pounds
John Shelton of Michigan was crowned the 165-pound title winner with his 16-7 major over 2nd place finisher Tyler Stevens of Oklahoma. Peter Herrera of Missouri held onto the bronze with a victory by fall over Jacob Crooks in 25 seconds.
175-pounds
Damen Pape of Nebraska won the 175-pound title with a victory by fall over Craig Montgomery of Ohio in 1:21 while Thomas Brown of Missouri defeated Thomas Stribling of Kansas by fall in 1:17 for the third place title.
190-pounds
Taking home the top spot in the 190-pound weight class was Hunter McCall of Michigan who defeated Fortney Lucas of Oklahoma 4-2. Santos Cantu of Oregon used a 5-0 decision over Bodie Minder of Wisconsin to win the consolation bracket.
205-pounds
Winning the 3-man 205 pound bracket was Mario Perez of Kansas who defeated 2nd place Colin Naney of Oklahoma and 3rd place finisher Warren Cox of Michigan.
Heavyweight
Tyler Delooff of Michigan used a first period fall to win the Heavyweight championship as he defeated Liam Pillard of Michigan in 1:05. Donovan Ford of Texas took home the consolation prize with a 4-2 decision over Ryan Skillington of Missouri.
