Justin Mejia announced today on twitter that he will be verbally committing to the University of Illinois.

The rising Clovis senior is No. 18 on the Big Board and was the fifth highest rated athlete who had not yet committed.

Exactly two months ago, we posted a story on Mejia's college visits up to that point. He had de-committed from Iowa right after the Fourth of July, and became one of the hottest prospects on the market. When he spoke to FloWrestling after that, he mentioned Minnesota and Illinois as the only two schools with whom he was talking. He also posted a picture with Illinois assistant coach Mark Perry on social media.

The three-time California state champ is currently ranked third in the country at 126, and projects as a 125 or 133 for the Illini. It is the first Class of 2017 Big Boarder the Big Ten school has picked up thus far. Mejia projects as the possible replacement for All American Zane Richards. Illinois and Perry have had success with lightweights (Richards), Californians (Isaiah Martinez), and an intersection of the two (Jesse Delgado) in the very recent past.
