When Kevin Jackson announced he wouldn't be returning for the 2017-2018 season for Iowa State, Austin Gomez, an ISU signee wanted out.
Kevin Dresser was named the ISU Head Coach last week, and has apparently instilled confidence in Gomez that Iowa State is the spot for him. Gomez is the #14 overall recruit for the class of 2017 and is currently ranked 3rd at 138 pounds.
Gomez announced the decision via Twitter:
Dresser still has some work to do in keeping other recruits like Jarod Verkleeren and Ethan Smith. The timing of ISU's hiring the Dresser so soon was driven by ISU's desire to keep some of their class of 2017 recruiting haul on board. Gomez was the 2nd highest ranked recruit of this class, one spot behind Cadet World Champ Jarod Verkleeren.
