No. 13 Alex Facundo vs Kendall Coleman At Agony In Ames
No. 13 Alex Facundo is set to take on Kendall Coleman at Agony in Ames.
The third matchup for Agony in Ames has been announced. Thirteenth-ranked Alex Facundo of Michigan will wrestle against Kendall Coleman of Illinois at 145 pounds on October 21 in Ames, Iowa.
Facundo is one of the nation's top incoming freshman and won a Cadet freestyle stop sign in Fargo. The Michigan native made the finals of both the Flo Kickoff Classic and Flo Tulsa Nationals as an eighth-grader. After a strong summer that also included an undefeated record at Cadet duals and a folkstyle nationals title, Facundo could very well be competing in his first high school match before he takes the mat for Davison (MI) High School.
His opponent is a veteran in rising senior Kendall Coleman. An Illinois state finalist for Mount Carmel High School this past season, he also took bronze medals at preseason nationals and the Dvorak. Earlier this summer, he committed to wrestle for coach Tony Ersland at Purdue.
Both athletes wrestle for storied programs. Davison was home to NCAA champions Brent Metcalf, Paul Donahoe, and Jon Reader; Facundo's club coach is Donahoe. Mount Carmel has a storied athletic tradition beyond wrestling and counts NCAA champ Joe Williams among its alumni.
