Stephen Buchanan, a two-time All-American and three-time national qualifier at Wyoming, announced today his decision to transfer to Oklahoma.
Buchanan, a native of Loyal, Wisconsin, posted his decision on Instagram.
Buchanan is in his fourth year out of high school and still has a redshirt available. Sooner associate head coach Nick Heflin said it was "most likely" that Buchanan will spend the rest of the season in redshirt. Buchanan has two years of eligibility remaining thanks to the 2021-covid year that the NCAA ruled does not count against any athlete's eligibility.
Buchanan was the 26th seed in the canceled 2020 NCAA Championship as a true freshman. The following year he made it to the podium, placing eighth. Stephen started the 2021-22 season in the top 10 and never looked back, rising to as high as #2 in the national rankings before ultimately finishing in third-place at the 2022 NCAAs.
Oklahoma currently has seventh-year senior Keegan Moore as their starting 197-pounder. Moore made the round of 16 last season for the Sooners at 184-pounds.
