Spencer Lee Makes Season Debut For Iowa
Three-time NCAA Champion Spencer Lee made his season debut for the Hawkeyes.
For the first time since February of 2020, A Carver-Hawkeye crowd got to watch Spencer Lee wrestle. After not being listed in the probables earlier this week, Spencer Lee's name hit the lineup sheet Sunday morning.
11 months removed from double ACL surgery, Spencer made the walk out and kicked off the dual at 125 for the Hawkeyes. Spencer set his typical tone with a takedown in the first 10 seconds. After a quick escape he added another takedown and hit his patented reinforced bar tilts. It was 12-2 after the first period when Cabanban took neutral. Cabanban converted a double leg late in the 2nd and rode Spencer out and it was 12-4 after two when Spencer took bottom. After an escape, Spencer hit a throw-by off Cabanban's shot to go up 15-4. While Spencer's was able to earn a major decision win, 16-5.
Attire-wise, Spencer donned a sleeve on his left leg and a kneepad on his right. So for the first time in a long time, there was no knee-brace for Spencer. Regardless of allegiance, it's great to see Spencer Lee back on the mat and healthy.
