Fargo finalists Sarah Henckel and Mary Manis turned in sparkling performances Friday while capturing titles at the inaugural Girls Beast of the East.
Fargo finalists Sarah Henckel and Mary Manis turned in sparkling performances Friday while capturing titles at the inaugural Girls Beast of the East.
Henckel, ranked seventh nationally at 144, cruised to the 167-pound title. The Fargo 16U champion registered two first-period pins and a technical fall in her three matches. One of her pins came against Taylor Waddy, who’s ranked 22nd nationally at 180 pounds.
Manis, a runner-up in Fargo this summer, entered Friday ranked third in the country at 100 pounds. She took home the Beast title at 109 after scoring a fall in the finals against #29 (at 106) Leeanna Mercado.
Four other nationally ranked wrestlers took home titles Friday: Alyssa Mahan (#26 at 122) won the 122-pound bracket, Morgan Edwards (#27 at 127) captured the 134-pound championship, Molly Keller (#19 at 138) scored bonus points in all three of her bouts at 140 and May Cuyler (#23 at 144) won the title at 147.
