In a stunning and sudden turn of events Saturday, one of the longest winning streaks in college wrestling history and a bid for a fourth national title evaporated.
Grand View’s Shea Ruffridge scored a last-second reversal to pull out a 6-5 victory in the 141-pound NAIA semifinals against Doane’s Baterdene Boldmaa, snapping the three-time national champion’s 100-match winning streak — the sixth-longest in college history.
Ruffridge’s winning reversal capped a chaotic final 10 seconds. Boldmaa never led until he slid around fifth-seeded Ruffridge for a takedown to go up 5-4 with six seconds remaining.
After the takedown call was upheld following a video review, Ruffridge rolled off a restart and came out on top of Boldmaa for the winning reversal.
