WWE Star Gable Steveson's Plan To Return To Competition
Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson is returning to the mat for the first time since winning the 2022 NCAA Championships.
Gable Steveson took his shoes off and placed them in the center of the mat after he won the 285-pound title at the 2022 NCAA Championships. It symbolized his final competitive match and it marked a new chapter in his athletic career.
It appears that Steveson will put his wrestling shoes back on for at least one more go. The 202One Olympic gold medalist will compete at the upcoming US Open in the 125-kilogram class for his chance to make the 2023 World Team. A win guarantees a spot in Final X on June 10.
Steveson signed a multi-year contract with World Wrestling Entertaining (WWE) that could make him a global superstar. This could be part of a storyline as he builds his future character, or it might mean he just wants to compete again.
This will be Steveson's first freestyle competition since his thrilling last-second win in the Olympic finals over three-time World Champion Geno Petriasvili on August 6, 2021. He still trains periodically with the Gopher Wrestling Club and 2022 World teamer Hayden Zillmer.
