The NCAA Division I Council adjusted one key piece of its recruiting legislation this week, lifting the limitation on how many official visits prospective student-athletes can take.
Beginning July 1, prospects will no longer be limited to five official visits. Instead, they’ll be capped at one official visit per school, unless a head coaching change takes place after the prospect’s visit, which would allow the prospect to take one additional visit to that school.
The recruiting legislation change will provide prospects to check out more college campuses with schools covering the costs of travel, transportation, lodging, and meals for a prospect and up to two additional family members.
"For young people considering where to go to college, visits to campus — both official and unofficial — are an integral part of the decision-making process," chair of the Division I Council Lynda Tealer said. "This was an opportunity to modernize NCAA rules in a way that provides greater and more meaningful opportunities for prospects going through the recruitment process."
