The PIAA Board of Directors has unanimously approved moving forward with high school girls wrestling.
As first reported by Allie Berube of ABC27News in Pennsylvania, the PIAA Board of Directors has approved adding girls wrestling as an official high school sport in the state.
Girls wrestling is now an official high school sport in Pennsylvania, effective July 1, 2023.

The PIAA has a bylaw stating that 100 schools must offer a sport before it can be officially sanctioned. Despite the first program not being offered util March of 2020, Pennsylvania passed that mark in February of this year.
There will be an official state championship in 2024.
Pennsylvania is the 38th state to sanction girls wrestling.
