U23 Women's World Team (Almost) Set
The World Team Trials Challenge tournament solidified nine of 10 women's U23 World team spots.
The recent World Team Trials Challenge tournament decided four remaining Final X spots, but it also provided clarity on who will represent the United States at the U23 World Championships in Tampere, Finland on October 23-29. U23 National champions are not guaranteed a spot.
The U23 World team was determined by Final X participants in all but one weight.
The highest age-eligible wrestler on the U.S. Senior National team (top three) at each weight qualifies for the U23 World Championships. The U23 National champion gets the spot if no wrestler in the top three is age-eligible.
Below is a breakdown of who made the U23 World team and who won the U23 Nationals.
50 Kilograms
U23 World team: Audrey Jimenez
U23 National champion: Emily Shilson
Jimenez made the U23 team since she reached Final X and her Final X opponent (Sarah Hildedrandt) is not U23 eligible.
53 Kilograms
U23 World team: Katie Gomez
U23 National champion: Felicity Taylor
Gomez made the U23 team since she reached Final X and her Final X opponent (Dom Parrish) is not U23 eligible.
55 kilograms:
U23 World team: Alisha Howk
U23 National champion: Alisha Howk
Howk made the U23 team since she reached Final X and her Final X opponent (Jacarra Winchester is not U23 eligible.
