Jason Nolf Is Competing At Final X Wrestling 2023: What You Should Know
Jason Nolf qualified for Final X Wrestling 2023 as the 74kg champion at the 2023 U.S. Open Wrestling Championships in April. Here’s what to know about him.
Jason Nolf, 27, rolled through the U.S. Open field, with his final opponent of the event being fellow former Penn State wrestler Vincenzo Joseph, whom he defeated 10-5 for the title and a spot at Final X 2023 presented by Tezos.
Nolf is not unfamiliar with the big stages. He was a standout for Penn State Wrestling and also has seen action at the World Team Trials Challenge, Pan American Championships and the U.S. Olympic Team Trials.
His Final X opponent will be Kyle Dake, who was the 74kg gold medalist at the 2022 World Wrestling Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. It was his fourth consecutive world title and second straight at 74kg.

2023 Final X Wrestling Matchups
Dake and Nolf met twice in 2021, with Dake winning both encounters. They met again at Final X 2022, where Dake swept Nolf in the best-of-three series to earn his fifth berth on the national team.
This year’s edition of Final X will take place at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, on June 10. The event will feature the top two wrestlers at every weight class in a best-of-three series, with the winners making the 2023 United States World Team.
The world team will travel to Belgrade, Serbia, to compete at the 2023 Senior World Championships from Sept. 16-24.

Jason Nolf Excelled For Penn State Wrestling
Nolf was a three-time NCAA champion at 157 pounds, winning in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
He also won two Big Ten championships and was named an All-American four times.
Jason Nolf Is Well-Traveled
Nolf has made multiple trips to Russia to compete against some of the best in the world.
His first trip, in 2021, included a victory over 2014 world champion Khetik Tasbolov.
Nolf returned in 2022 and claimed a silver medal at the Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix.
Jason Nolf Did Cool Things In Pennsylvania High School
Though he did win three Pennsylvania state wrestling titles and finished his career at Kittanning High School with a 176-1 record across three weight classes, Nolf was a well-rounded as a student-athlete.
He also lettered in cross country and track and excelled academically, winning the Kittanning’s Physics Award and the school’s Principal’s Award.

How Wrestlers Qualify For Final X Wrestling 2023
A wrestler can qualify for Final X in one of three ways.
First, all 2022 senior world medalists automatically qualified for Final X. There were seven wrestlers in men’s freestyle, six in women’s freestyle and zero in Greco-Roman who met this criterion.
Next, all champions from the 2023 US Open (held April 26-30) automatically qualified for Final X.
Finally, for the weights that didn’t have a returning world medalist, the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament (May 20-21) champion will earn a spot in Final X.
