Below is a map of all the hometowns for every Final X competitor in all three styles. We had to zoom out to get Tashkent, Uzbekistan (Ildar Hafizov, 60kg in Greco-Roman), Mormal, Belarus (Aliaksandr Kikiniou, 77kg in Greco-Roman), and Shungnak, Alaska (Spencer Woods, 82kg in Greco-Roman) all in frame.
Greco-Roman will also feature Alan Vera at 87kg, who originally comes from Santiago de Cuba. Team USA could feature up to three wrestlers who transferred from other national wrestling federations, all in Greco-Roman.
Speaking of that style, here's a hometown map of just the no-leg-touching squad.
The Army WCAP program has the most Final X Greco participants, which recruits from all over the country, and indeed the world, so it's no surprise to see the Greco competitors spread out across the continent(s).
Minnesota is also a hotbed for Greco-Roman wrestling, as the Minnesota Storm has proven to be one of the most exemplary clubs in American Greco-Roman history.
All the women's freestyles hail from the 48 contiguous states, so we are able to zoom in when mapping their 20 hometowns. The map for the women's team is below.
California can lay claim to being the hotbed of American women's wrestling, as evidenced by there being eight wrestlers from the Golden State (that's 40% of all the women competitors). It's not a coincidence that California was one of the first states to sanction girls high school wrestling.
We can also get a closer look at the geography of the hometowns of all the men's freestyles, as they also all lie within the contiguous 48. That map is below.
The northeast stands out as a hotbed, at least this year, as Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and New York all have reps here in Newark. Pennsylvania led the pack with four men's freestylers. Jordan Burroughs will be the only one wrestling in his home state of New Jersey.
Finally, because you demanded it, a heat map.
This is of all styles but we still cropped the map to the lower 48, so be aware that there are also little blue smudges in Cuba, Belarus, Uzbekistan and Alaska. With what we do see, it's the northeast and midwest that get the most coverage, with California also providing a good amount of heat as well.
Below is a list of all the hometowns we used for each wrestler. Sometimes we ran into two different cities for the same wrestler, depending on the source, so it's never an exact science, but please let us know if we messed something up!
