Japan Runs Away With First, USA Edges India For Second

Japan once again showed why they're the leading power in women's wrestling winning the team title by 78 points over second-place United States. Japan won 8 total medals with an incredible 6 golds and 2 silvers. On top of that, Japan's wrestlers combined for a total record of 34-5 at the U17 World Championships.

Though Team USA finished behind Japan, the United States had an impressive second-place finish with 6 total medals - 2 golds and 4 bronzes. The second-place team race was a thrilling finish between USA and India and wasn't decided until the final weight class. USA trailed India by 18 points entering Friday but Jaclyn Bouzakis, Haylie Jaffe, and Jasmine Robinson all won their bronze medal matches, earning valuable team points for the United States. Though Karlee Brooks lost her medal match, Brooks' win in the repechage round earned Team USA 10 points and contributed greatly to the second-place finish.

In the above table, you'll notice both Russia and Belarus are listed as "AIN" which means "Individual Neutral Athlete". These athletes cannot earn team points, however, it's still interesting to keep track of and helps in organizing points for every weight. Team points are calculated according to UWW’s top 10 placement points for world championship team scoring: 25, 20, 15, 15, 10, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2.
