#3 Prospect Kollin Rath Is Open To Anywhere For His College Decision
An inside look at the recruitment of Pennsylvania state champion Kollin Rath.
A rising junior at Bethlehem Catholic, Kollin Rath is the #3 overall recruit in the class of 2025. A Pennsylvania state champion this past year, he is currently ranked #8 in the country at 145 lbs. We recently spoke to Rath to get an inside look at his recruitment process and what’s next for him.
What do you remember about June 15th, the day recruitment opened up for you?
It was just calls from 8:30 am to 7:30 at night. There wasn’t much of a break. I didn’t know what to expect. I knew some people wanted me, but I didn’t know it would be to that extent. It was kind of nice, but I didn’t expect it to be that much.
What have you learned in the two months you’ve been allowed to be contacted by coaches?
It’s really just talking about wrestling. I was pretty nervous. I had never done it, so I didn’t know what to expect, but I just talked about wrestling like I’ve done for years. It ended up being fun.
You can now take unlimited school visits. Do you think you’ll take more than the old limit of five?
For me, it’s hit everywhere I can. I’ll find a place that fits me best by getting out there and seeing it. So, if I feel like it will fit me, I want to get out there and see it. But there’s no number of how many I want to get to.
Do you have a timeline for when you want to make this decision?
It’s more of a “when I know, I know” situation. But I’m hoping it will be by the summer heading into my senior year. I don’t want to rush it, but that will be a whole year to see everywhere and make my decision.
Do you have a list of the top schools you're most interested in yet?
Not really. I’m open to everything. Right now, I haven’t seen any of the schools, so I don’t know. Obviously, I want to be at and train with the best, but I don’t have a “this is my #1, this is my #2.”
What are some of the biggest factors for you when thinking about your college decision?
A coaching staff that will be behind me for everything. They’ll see me when I’m down and pick me up and keep pushing me. I know if I have someone behind me and push me forward, I’ll be able to do what I need to do.
How is NIL playing a role in your recruitment?
It’s come up a little bit, but that’s not really playing a factor in my decision. Yeah, it would be nice to have some money coming out of college, but I know once I get it in college I’m just going to put it away. It’s just going to be there for after college to set myself up for life. It’s not going to be a big thing, but if it’s there, I’ll take it.
What’s next for you?
I’ve got nothing right now. I’ve been out for a little bit. The first thing is training for Super (32). Hopefully Chance has a few tournaments set up for us.
