India Wins First-Ever Team Title, USA Takes Third

India took home its first-ever women's world title after a thrilling team race. India defeated perennial powerhouse Japan by just 11 points and Team USA by 22 points. In total, India won seven medals - 3 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze. Japan earned six medals to finish in 2nd place while Team USA placed 3rd with 5 medalists.

In the above table, you'll notice Russia and Belarus are listed as "AIN" which means "Individual Neutral Athlete". These athletes cannot earn team points, however, it's still interesting to keep track of and helps in organizing points for every weight. Team points are calculated according to UWW’s top 10 placement points for world championship team scoring: 25, 20, 15, 15, 10, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2.

Team USA Battles Through Adversity

Despite finishing behind India and Japan, Team USA still had a successful world championship with 5 medals -  1 gold, 1 silver, and 3 bronze. What makes this performance even more impressive was the adversity many of the team members had to fight through during the tournament. Many of the members of Team USA suffered from severe bouts of food poisoning in Jordan. Check out Kennedy Blades's brief description of what she dealt with:
