Travis Wittlake is headed back to his home state.

The four-time Oregon state high school champion — who became a four-year fixture in the Oklahoma State lineup — announced Tuesday morning on Instagram that he’s joining Chris Pendleton’s program.

For Oregon State, this marks the culmination of a long and circuitous process to get Wittlake to Corvallis.

Wittlake was one of the nation’s top recruits in the Class of 2018. He won three Fargo titles and compiled a 196-2 record at Marshfield High School, where he wrestled for his father, Travis Sr. The younger Wittlake initially committed to Penn State before flipping to Oklahoma State in the days leading up to signing day.

Wittlake racked up 79 wins in four seasons with the Cowboys, highlighted by a 28-2 freshman season in 2020 that included a Big 12 title and a 22-3 mark as a sophomore in 2021 when he finished fourth at the NCAA Championships at 165 pounds.

He dealt with injuries during an abbreviated junior season before moving up to 184 pounds last season when he went 20-7.

Wittlake is expected to wrestle at 174 pounds at Oregon State, slotting in between Pac-12 champ Matthew Olguin and All-American Trey Munoz.
