The NCAA Division I Council approved changes this morning to the transfer portal windows that will shrink the number of days for student-athletes to enter their name in the portal. Across all sports, including wrestling, it will be 45 days. 

The DI Council approved changes to transfer windows in all sports to 45 days, including:

🏀Men’s & women’s basketball: 45 days
🏈Football: 45 days (30 days after season, 15 days in spring)

Council actions are not final until meeting concludes today.

Fall and spring sports have two windows, whereas winter sports only have one. This does not impact when a student-athlete can transfer, only when they can enter their name into the NCAA database to transfer without penalty.

The 45-day time period is a decrease from the previous period of 52 days for wrestling. The original date for the upcoming portal window for wrestling was going to be Thursday, March 14, 2024 to Sunday, May 12, 2024. The new 45-day windows will become official at the conclusion of Wednesday’s council meeting and will take effect immediately. It is not clear what the new transfer portal dates will be at this time.
