The South Dakota State Wrestling season begins in Fargo, North Dakota at the Bison Open as the Jackrabbits hope to build off last season when they went 12-4 in dual meets. South Dakota State finished 14th at the NCAA Tournament with seven national qualifiers.

The team enters the year at No. 13 in the FloWrestling preseason rankings. 

The Jackrabbits return two All-Americans, in Clay Carlson and Tanner Sloan. 

Sloan is a standout in the 197-pound weight class and is the No.17-ranked Pound-For-Pound wrestler in the country according to FloWrestling. Carlson is the No.6-ranked wrestler at 141-pounds. 

The first trip outside the Dakotas South Dakota State will take is to Minnesota for a dual against the Gophers. The preseason schedule also includes a trip to Las Vegas for the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.

When Is the 2024 Big 12 Wrestling Tournament? 

The Big 12 Wrestling Championships are at the BOK Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The BOK Center hosted the 2023 NCAA National Championships. The BOK Center hosted the championships in 2023 as well. 

What College Wrestling Teams Are In the Big 12?

The Big 12 wrestling members are different from other sports. Despite being in the Southeastern Conference for other sports, Missouri never left the Big 12 for wrestling. The SEC doesn’t have wrestling as a sport. It has been determined if Oklahoma, which is leaving the Big 12 in other sports after the 2023-2024 seasons, will remain in the conference for wrestling.
