The University of Iowa women's wrestling team put on quite a show during the Trailblazer Duals inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Sunday, November 12. The Hawkeyes wrestled in front of 8207 fans as they took on Lindenwood, Presbyterian, and Sacred Heart -- the other three Division I programs that currently sponsor women's wrestling

The results were staggering but not surprising. Iowa won 29 of 30 bouts and rarely gave up a point during three contested duals. Sacred Heart secured the lone win against Iowa during the final bout of the afternoon. 

A two-mat format allowed fans to watch all four programs simultaneously as the historic event unfolded before their eyes. It felt like a rock concert at times when fans crowded the railings to get autographs from Hawkeye wrestlers.

"It's more than anything I could have ever dreamed of," said Felicity Taylor, a senior from Spillville, Iowa. "You think of what it's going to be like and imagine what it's like to walk out in Carver-Hawkeye Arena with all the fans cheering for you. It's the best feeling in the world." 

The Trailblazer Duals simultaneously served as a wrestling contest, a tutorial on women's freestyle wrestling, and a historic event. Dorothy Mayabb, wife of associate head coach Gary Mayabb, was the public address announcer and she provided detailed explanations of freestyle rules.
