Iowa wrestling commit Angelo Ferrari knocked off Penn State wrestling commit Joe Sealey to win his 3rd straight Ironman title.
In the most highly anticipated final of the Ironman Wrestling Tournament finals, Iowa commit Angelo Ferrari defeated Penn State commit Joe Sealey in an ultimate-tie-breaker contest that had spectators at the Walsh Jesuit High School gym on the edge of their seats.
Ferrari and Sealey had history. They met at Who's Number One in 2022, a match Ferrari won by major decision. This was different. Sealey's tactical adjustments limited scoring, but not excitement, as points came at a premium.
The match went came down to a 30 second period. Any point by Sealey would have won him the match, but Ferrari rode in gritty fashion for the period and for the win.
The victory by Ferrari makes him a three-time Ironman champion in three attempts. There was no Ironman tournament in 2020, Ferrari's freshman year, due to COVID-19 concerns.
Ferrari's first Ironman title came in 2021 at 157 lbs with a finals victory over Logan Ours who is now in his second year at Wyoming.
His 2022 Ironman title concluded with a victory over Blair Academy's Lorenzo Norman who is now in his first year at Stanford and recently defeated NCAA champion Shane Griffith at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational.
