Penn State wrestling fans saw the past and the future collide at the Senior Nationals wrestling meet on Dec. 16. Former Nittany Lion great Max Dean, the 2022 NCAA Champion at 197 pounds, lost to future Penn State wrestler Connor Mirasola.

Mirasola got out to a 5-0 lead over Dean but surrendered 6 straight points late in the match. With 11 seconds left, Mirasola secured a four-point takedown to defeat Dean and advance to the semifinals.

Mirasola was one of two high school wrestlers to beat former NCAA champions as future Stanford Cardinal Aden Valencia beat Seth Gross in the 143 pound weight class.

Connor Mirasola Can't Get Past Mark Hall

Mirasola beat one Penn State great, but couldn't get past another. Mark Hall beat Mirasola 9-2 in the semifinals. With the loss, Mirasola did not qualify for the Olympic Trial in April. But he'll still have an opportunity to qualify by winning any of his next three matches to finish in the top five.
