High School Freshman Jaclyn Bouzakis Won Warrior Open Over Two College #1s
Wyoming Seminary's Jaclyn Bouzakis knocked off the top-ranked NAIA and NCAA 101-pounders on her way to a Warrior Open title in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
There's making a statement, and then there is yelling to the world through a megaphone. High school star Jaclyn Bouzakis, ranked #2 nationally at 100 pounds, made the wrestling world take notice. And she did it through actions and not words.
The Wyoming Seminary freshman entered the 101-pound bracket at the Warrior Women's Open in Fort Wayne, Indiana, on Saturday. She won all five of her matches, knocking off the NAIA number one and NCAA number one along the way.
Bouzakis defeated top-ranked Erin Hikiji of Providence (NAIA), 14-4, in the quarterfinals before notching a 7-1 win over Iowa's top-ranked Sterling Dias (NCAA) in the finals.
Taina Fernandez, a high school freshman at Arch Bishop Spalding, won the 130-pound bracket with three pins and two techs.
