The 2024 IHSAA Wrestling State Championships are going down in Des Moines, Iowa this weekend. Here’s a look at the Highlights from the event.

The 2024 IHSAA Iowa High School Wrestling State Championship began in Des Moines, Iowa on Feb. 14 at the Wells Fargo Arena. The three-day competition has been highly anticipated and features both state and nationally ranked high school wrestlers. 

With such a high amount of talent across this years competitors the event is poised to be action packed on the mats this weekend. 

Majority of this weekends competitors are following their performances at the  2024 IHSAA State Dual Team Tournament. Class 3A Southeast Polk, Class 2A Creston, and Class 1A Don Bosco were all named champions at the event and will look to repeat at the Iowa High School Wrestling State Championships.

Here's a look at some of the highlights from day one at the 2024 IHSAA Iowa High School Wrestling State Championship. 

Iowa High School Wrestling State Tournament 2024 Highlights

Ryan Bahnson (West Lyon) will wrestle in the  2A 120 State Finals after entering as the 7th seed. 

Bas Dias with an impressive 7-2 win in the Iowa State semifinals. 

Asa Hemsted takes out 3x state champ Max Magayna in the Iowa state semifinals.

Kyler Knaack (Gilbertville-Don Bosco) reaches the finals after locking in a cradle for the victory. 

Kaiden Knaack (Gilbertville-Don Bosco) is headed to the finals after a 6-4 win. 

 Taite Peach (Iowa Valley, Marengo) pulls the reversal for the fall in the 190 pound 1A class.

Dreshaun Ross (Fort Dodge) wins his opening round at the 3A Iowa High School State Wrestling Championships in 30 Seconds!

Undefeated Daniel Gorskikh (Knoxville) let late against Cohan Torres (North Polk) until Torres hit a reversal and added 2 near-fall to force overtime. Gorskikh came up clutch with the sudden-victory fall.


Jacques Zomermaand (Sioux Center) hits a classic cradle for the fall in the opening round of Iowa High School State Wrestling Championships.

2024 Iowa High School Wrestling State Tournament Schedule

The 2024 IHSAA State Championship Tournament is scheduled for Feb.14-17 in Des Moines, IA at the the Wells Fargo Arena.
