Freshmen Meyer Shapiro & Dylan Fishback Beat All-Americans In Big Dual
Cornell wrestling freshman Meyer Shapiro and NC State wrestling freshman Dylan Fishback beat All-Americans in big Friday night dual.
Cornell and NC State wrestling entered their Friday night dual ranked 9th and 8th in the NCAA wrestling dual meet rankings. Each team counted on contributions from their star first-year starters to stay in the dual.
At 157 lbs, Cornell true freshman Meyer Shapiro knocked off NC State All-American Ed Scott via 7-2 decision. Shapiro won the takedown battle 2-0 and looked solid throughout the bout.
Shapiro's victory over Scott was the third win he's had this season over an All-American. He beat Virginia Tech's Bryce Andonian at the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational in December and defeated Missouri's Brock Mauller in a dual in January. Both of those victories came via major decision.
NC State, who won the dual 24-9, had a big performance from redshirt freshman Dylan Fishback. The Ohio product earned his third victory over an All-American this season with a back-and-forth 6-4 decision over Cornell's Chris Foca.
Fishback's previous All-American victories came against North Carolina's Gavin Kane and Oregon State's Trey Munoz.
