A freshman on the Campbellsville University wrestling team was found unresponsive in his dorm room early Saturday morning and a former member of the team was arrested Saturday evening in connection with his killing.
Josiah Kilman, a freshman from Montana, was discovered in his dorm room around 12:43 a.m., according to Campbellsville police. Kilman was taken to Taylor Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. During the investigation, an arrest warrant was issued for Charles Escalera, who was apprehended Saturday evening and charged with murder.
Escalera was a 2017 Fargo 16U champion, a 2018 National Prep champion and 2021 Oklahoma state high school runner-up. He competed for Campbellsville in the 2021-22 season but is not currently listed on the team’s roster.
Kilman was a Montana state medalist as a senior at Columbia Falls High School.
A GoFundMe page was launched to help the Kilman family.
“Campbellsville University is grieving the loss of one of our family,” Campbellsville University president Dr. Joseph Hopkins said in a statement. “We have lost a student and our hearts are broken. During this devastating time, the continued safety of our students and the residents of our community are our primary concern. With consultation from local law enforcement, we will continue to implement every measure necessary to protect and support students and our community.”
