Two-time 197-pound All-American Jacob Cardenas at Cornell announced on social media that he will transfer from Cornell to Michigan to use his final year of eligibility.

Cardenas has been at Cornell since 2021 and started the last three years. The Ivy League does allow for graduate students to participate in varsity sports, thus, Cardenas, have secured a diploma, was forced to transfer to another school to utilize his final year of college eligibility. 

Cardenas was a blue-chip recruit, ranked #15 on the Class of 2019 Big Board and coming out of Bergan Catholic High School in Northern New Jersey. Cardenas deferred eligibility for the 2020 season and was then forced to sit out the 2021 due to the Ivy League suspending athletics that season due to covid. 

Cardenas qualified for the next three NCAA tournaments at 197-pounds for the Big Red, finishing on the podium at the last two with eighth and fourth-place finishes at the 2023 and 2024 Championships. 

Michigan did not qualify a wrestler for either the 2023 or 2024 NCAA tournament at 197-pounds. Rylan Rogers, a rising redshirt sophomore at Michigan, has entered the portal. Rogers the #13 recruit in the class of 2022, split time at 184 and 197 over the last two seasons.
