Carter Starocci Seeded At 86 kg Instead Of 74 kg For Olympic Trials
Carter Starocci Seeded At 86 kg Instead Of 74 kg For Olympic Trials
Four time NCAA champion Carter Starocci had planned to compete at 74 kg at the US Olympic Trials but is now seeded at 86 kg.
Pre seeds have been released for the 2024 US Olympic Trials. Penn State four-time NCAA champion Carter Starocci is seeded at 86 kg instead of 74 kg where he was originally planning to compete.
Starocci's NCAA press conference comments on 74 kg
According to Jon Kozak's seed projections, Starocci would have been likely to earn the #4 seed at 74 kg which could have resulted in a semifinal matchup with seven-time World and Olympic champ Jordan Burroughs. Last week, after former Nittany Lion three-time NCAA champ Bo Nickal commented on his frustration with Burroughs' commentary, Starocci quoted the tweet and added, "All good. I'll end his career in 3 weeks."

Starocci now sits at the #6 seed in the 86 kg mini tournament bracket according to the pre-seeds. If this version of the bracket holds, he'll see Pat Downey in the round of 16. A first round win would put him against #3 seed Trent Hidlay in the quarterfinals. The other quad on the bottom side of the bracket features Chance Marsteller, Max Dean, and Evan Wick. Marsteller is seeded to make the semifinal. Aaron Brooks is seeded 1st in the mini tournament and is a heavy favorite to make the finals on the top side of the bracket.
The winner of the mini tournament will see Olympic gold medalist David Taylor in a best of three final. Penn State will have plenty of Nittany Lions to follow at a 86 kg as the bracket includes four-time champs Brooks and Starocci, two-time champ David Taylor, and one-time champs Mark Hall and Max Dean.
