National Champion Kaylynn Albrecht Transfers To McKendree
Kaylynn Albrecht will complete her eligibility at McKendree University following a successful career at Baker University.
After a successful college career at Baker University, Kaylynn Albrecht will complete her eligibility at McKendree University in Lebanon, Illinois. Albrecht was a two-time NAIA finalist, winning a title in 2023 at 155 pounds.
McKendree is her third program after a stint at Wayland Baptist.
The Fort Worth, Texas, native did not compete collegiately last season and trained at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. She went 2-2 at the 2024 Olympic Trials at 68 kg and is currently ranked #7 in Flo’s domestic women’s freestyle rankings.
Albrecht will compete at 160 pounds next season for a Bearcat team that finished fourth at the 2024 National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships.
“Often, I come up with these great plans on what’s next on my journey even though I know the Lord will put me on the path where I belong,” Albrecht said. “It’s good to be prepared but also to be equipped with the humility of trusting in God's plan and His timing.
“Emma Bruntil got Coach Alexio and me in contact a few months back while I was training for Olympic Trials and his patience to wait to talk to me until I was ready to talk about school spoke volumes to me about his character. I’ve had excellent coaches in the past but the ones who have kept in contact with me know what it means to me to give me space to make decisions but also be ready for when I come to them for advice.
“Them being Carlos Ornelas and Travis Clark whom I’ve known since I was 16 — almost eight years ago. I’m excited because I’ve watched this team endure the true process of growth and continue to gain success. I’m certain about this decision and am aware of how different my process has been to get here. With that being said, I’m all the more excited for a new season on the mat.”
