American Amit Elor is a two-time Senior World champion at 72 kilograms who moved to 68 kg for the Olympics. She defeated the top seed and 2023 World champion Buse Cavusoglu Tosun of Turkey, 10-2, in the opening round before downing Poland's Wiktoria Choluj, 8-0, in the quarters.
Elor faces North Korea's Sol Gum Pak in the semifinals. Pak rallied to win 8-6 in the quarterfinals.
Semifinal Matchups
GR 60 kg: Fumita Kenichiro (Japan) over Zholaman Sharshenbekov (Krgyzstan), 4-3
First period: The first passivity goes against Kenichiro, leading to a penalty point and a shot at par terre for Zholaman. Kenichiro avoids getting turned but Zholaman takes a 1-0 lead.
Second period: Kenichiro hits a beautiful four-point throw 45 seconds into the match for a 4-1 lead. Duck under for Sharshenbekov to cut the lead to 4-3 but Kenichiro holds on for the 4-3 win and a spot in the gold medal finals.
GR 60 kg: Liguo Cao (China) over Se Ung Ri (North Korea), 3-3
First period: First passivity against Cao. Ri leads 1-0 with a shot on top in par terre. Cao gets two on a tight-waist gut for two points and a 3-0 lead halfway through the period.
Second period: Passitity call against Ri and Cao gets his chance on top. Ri leads 3-1 after Cao doesn't get a turn in par terre. Cao gets a two-point takedown at the buzzer for a 3-3 criteria win and a spot in the gold medal finals.
GR 130 kg: Mijain Lopez (Cuba) over Sabah Shariati (Azerbaijan), 4-1
First period: Lopez scores the first point on a passivity call and gets a turn on top for a 3-0 lead with 1:25 to go in the period. Lopez takes that lead into the second period.
Second period: Sharaiati gets a passivity point and a chance on top with 2:07 left. Lopez earns a reversal for a 4-1 lead halfway through the period. Lopez will attempt to win his fifth Olympic gold medal.
GR 130 kg: asmani Acosta (Chile) over Lingzhe Meng (China), 1-1
First period: First passivity call against Acosta. Meng takes a 1-0 lead and a chance in par terre. Acosta defends and the action goes to neutral.
Second period: Passivity called against Meng. Acosta takes a 1-1 lead after an unsuccessful attempt at a turn. Third caution was called against Acosta, no point awarded but Meng was unsuccessful in par terre. Acosta wins 1-1 and will face Lopez in the gold medal finals.
WFS 68 kg: Amit Elor (United States) over Pak Sol Gum (North Korea), 10-0
First period: Elor strikes first on a go-behind with 1:45 left, then locks up a leg lace for four straight turns, a 10-0 tech, and a spot in the gold medal finals.
WFS 68 kg: Meerim Zhumanazarova (Kyrgyzstan) over Blessing Oborududu (Nigeria), 3-1
First period: Oborududu earns an activity point with 57 left.
Second period: Low single by Zhumanazarova but Obodurudu stimied the shot and the action goes to neutral. Another low single as Zhumanazarova takes a 1-1 lead on criteria. Zhumanazarova snags the first takedown for a 3-1 lead with 55 seconds left. Zhumanazarova neutralizes a final attempt by Oborududu and holds on for a 3-1 win and a spot in the gold medal finals against Amit Elor.
