Japan Clinches Team Title Over USA
Japan has officially clinched the team title after the sixth day of Olympic wrestling and won an incredible 6 medals. Japan had a "slow" start with bronze medals at 50 kg and 68 kg won 18 straight matches since Yui Susaki's upset loss against Vinesh Phogat on the second day of competition. In that time, they won gold medals at 53 kg, 57 kg, 62 kg, and 76 kg with bronze medals at 50 kg and 68 kg.
Team USA won second place by a large margin with four total medals - golds from Sarah Hildebrandt (50 kg), Amit Elor (68 kg), silver from Kennedy Blades (76 kg), and a bronze from Helen Maroulis (57 kg).

Team points are calculated according to UWW’s top 10 placement points for world championship team scoring: 25, 20, 15, 15, 10, 10, 8, 6, 4, 2. At this point, only wrestlers who made the semifinals and finals at 68 kg have earned team points.
