Round 1 - 8-0 loss to Rahman Amouzad, IRI

Amouzad stormed forward with an underhook early, Retherford threw it off but Amouzad dropped to the legs and scored a takedown on the edge to take a 2-0 lead. Amouzad used his length and underhook in the first to keep Retherford's handfight at bay and Retherford was put on the activity clock with 31 seconds left in the first. Time ran out to make it 3-0 Amouzad at the end of the first period.

Amouzad started the second period by converting a quick takedown off a Retherford snap and Retherford was called for fleeing giving Amouzad another point to make it 6-0. Retherford stayed in the hand fight but Amouzad used his underhook to force two more stepouts and take the match 8-0. Amouzad will need to make the finals to pull 

Repechage Match - Injury default loss to Islam Dudaev, ALB

USA Wrestling announced that Zain Retherford withdrew from the Paris Olympics due to a head injury. With that, Retherford is officially eliminated from the competition and will not bring home a medal.
