Bella Mir Transfers From Iowa Wrestling To North Central
All-American Bella Mir is transferring from Iowa to North Central after one season with the Hawkeyes.
After one season at the University of Iowa, All-American Bella Mir is transferring. Mir will compete for Division III North Central College in Naperville, Illinois — a program that went toe-to-toe with the Hawkeyes for the 2024 national title.
Mir finished fifth at the 2024 National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships after a 21-3 freshman campaign. She was among 15 national qualifiers for Iowa and was behind senior Marlynne Deede, who won the 155-pound title.
The Las Vegas, Nevada, native is the daughter of former two-time UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir and is 3-0 as a fighter. Mir will compete at 145 or 160 for the Cardinals.
"I loved Iowa, the school, the fans, and my team more than anything, but something was missing, and I'm hoping to find it at North Central," Mir said.
North Central finished second to Iowa at the 2024 National Duals and National Collegiate Women's Wrestling Championships by one match after winning the 2023 national title with 15 All-Americans.
"We are super excited to have Bella joining us," North Central coach Joe Norton said. "We learned that we lost a two-time All-American and title contender at the weight to injury a couple of weeks ago. So, she's a welcome addition, especially in that weight range.
"We wanted Bella the first time around and we loved her in the recruiting process. We are happy to have her joining us in our pursuit of winning the 2025 NCWWC title."
