131 Pounds: Victoria Baez-Dilone, King (NCAA) vs Carolina Moreno, Southern Oregon (NAIA)
Domination is the name of the game for Moreno. She blitzed the 2024 NAIA Championships, notching two falls and three techs, including an 11-0 shutout in the finals.
She works well from a front headlock and scores on go-behinds — frustrating her opponents when they can’t reach her legs. Moreno can explode for four from a double or, if you’re not careful, she can hit a fireman’s carry to your back. The Southern Oregon star isn’t afraid to use classic folkstyle techniques, pinning you with a cradle if the opportunity arises.
The Spanish-born Baez-Dilone was raised on freestyle and her matches reflect her upbringing. She stays in solid position and is selective with her attacks. The King University star looks for a leg lace or a gut wrench from a takedown, but she can pin you with a pancake if you get overaggressive. She’ll also break out double from space and take you down.
Baez-Dilone has international experience, competing for Spain at the World Championships. She might move down to 124 this season so this will be a good early season test at 131.
This feels like a strategic match with both wrestlers prioritizing position over points. That doesn’t mean a tech or a fall isn’t possible, it just means that both wrestlers will likely be patient to find the positions that suit them best.
