Our own JD Rader on the mic tonight, talking up the infamous Gill Coluseum beer garden that will hopefully keep all the fans adequately lubricated.
125: Joey Cruz, Iowa vs #13 Maximo Renteria, Oregon State
1st period: First minute didn't see much in the way of attacks. Cruz taking over for NCAA finalist Drake Ayala, who moved up to 133 this year. Renteria is a transfer from Illinois. Cruz has the first solid attack, get ahold of one of Renteria's legs but action is stalemated. Still 0-0. Late in the first Renteria shoots but Cruz gets a leg again on the reattack. Good flurry but the period runs out before anyone could score.
2nd period: Renteria chooses down. Cruz can't get a full mat return and Renteria is out after about 15 seconds to take the 1-0 lead. The handfighting has picked up. Halfway through the period Cruz is in on another single leg, Renteria trying to sit the corner, Cruz fights through for the takedown for 3 but Renteria almost immediately rolls through and gets a reversal to even the score at 3-3. Renteria rides out the final 10 or so seconds and we go to the third.
3rd period: Cruz chooses neutral, doesn't want to try to get the escape. Cruz with a nifty boot scoot attempt but Renteria with a niftier counter and he gets a go behind for three and he leads 6-3. Renteria with a solid ride, creeping up on riding time. A couple of granby attempts don't yield anything good for Cruz. In fact Renteria ends up with a tight figure four leg turk and Renteria is going to get the rideout. Crowd is loving it as Renteria pumps them up in the final seconds. Then Renteria hits the Connor McGregor walk after the final whistle, then shoots his ankle band. Oregon State fans loving all of it.

133: #3 Drake Ayala, Iowa vs Damion Elliott, Oregon State
1st period: Ayala will try and move the Hawkeyes into the lead. No Wisenhunt for the Beavers, who's got a little more experience and had more success than Elliott. Ayala jumps to a 3-0 leads with a quick takedown. he cuts Elliott and then goes hi-c to double for another 3. It's catch and release already. 6-2, Ayala snaps and looks for a near side cradle, will settle for a go behind. Ayala kicks Elliott free again and then another quick takedown. JD and the other announcer now discussing JD wrestling career at Nebraska-Kearney. You can look up some of those matches right here on FloWrestling, I encourage you to do so! Period ends 12-4 Ayala.
2nd period: Elliot takes bottom and he's right out. And the crowd is brought to live but a takedown from Elliott! 12-8 now the margin for Ayala. Quick escape to make it 13-8. Single leg for Ayala and soon after it's 16-8, 30 seconds to go in the period. Ayala rides out the period, he's got over a minute of RT as the period ends.
3rd period: Ayala chooses bottom. Ayala switches then stands then escapes. Another single leg and headwheel and it's 20-8 for Ayala. Elliott is cut loose and it's 20-9 with 1:33 on the clock. We pause for blood time. Tech-fall is in Ayala's sights. Takedown and release, takedown release, and there it is, 26-10 and Iowa moves into the lead!

141: Ryder Block, Iowa vs Nash Singleton, Oregon State
1st period: It's Block's debut for Iowa after a redshirt season where he didn't make it onto the mat. Singleton was 12-12 last season in D1 competition, his first as a starter. Block shoots a nice double, has his fingertips behind Singleton's knees but Nash was able to defend. late in the period, still 0-0 but there's a nice attack from Singleton, there's in a flurry, and Singleton with a huge lift and return. It's 3 points for Singleton, nearly had back points. Block is out before the period ends and it's 3-1.
2nd period: Block chooses down. Block looking to escape but goes out of bounds, or 'saved by geography' as JD's announcer partner said, and who's name I will learn before the end of the match (I hope. Either way he is excellent). Block comes close to escaping again but Singleton holds on to a leg and they go out of bounds. Block finally gets his escape, Singleton has a minute of riding time as the period ends, 3-2.
3rd period: Block has to ride for about a dozen seconds to get RT under a minute, which he does thanks to a couple of mat returns. Now Block cuts him as he'll need more than a rideout to win and Block would rather try that on his feet rather then try for a turn. But Singleton has plans of his own and he keeps the pressure on, chewing up a lot of time in dominant cooler tie positions. But now Block is on a single leg, Singleton tries to reach for a far ankle but instead Block collects both of Singleton's legs and he takes the lead, 5-4! A few big mat returns and they go out of bounds with just 15 seconds on the clock. Singleton can't get out after the restart and Block gets the gritty come-from-behind victory in his first match in the black and gold singlet!

149: #4 Kyle Parco, Iowa vs Victor Jacinto, Oregon State
1st period: Parco a multiple-time All-American first last Fresno State, then at Arizona State, now at Iowa. Jacinto is from Gilroy California and transferred in from Junior College. Some pretty good hand fighting in the first minute but no scores. Also a couple of breaks to try and stop Jacinto's lip from bleeding. Back to action, front headlock for Jacinto, sucker drag from Parco and now he's in on a single leg. Jacinto is hopping but Parco times his foot sweep and he collects 3 to take the lead. Switch attempt from Jacinto and he nearly gets the reversal, Parco holds on to a an ankle and there's no escape but Parco does pick up a stall call, his first, just a warning.
2nd period: Jacinto takes down, he's trailing 3-0. Sit out from Jacinto nearly ended in a suck back but Jacinto bellied out. Stand from Jacinto and he's finally free 3-1. A couple of nice exchanges but no more scores through the second. Still 3-1, Parco with over a minute of RT.
3rd period: Parco chooses bottom. Jacinto wants to get the RT under a minute but a standing granby sets Parco free before that can happen and he leads 4-1 with RT over a minute, though it's not yet locked up. One minute left in the match, Jacinto hasn't been able to get to Parco's legs yet. Now RT locked up, and now Jacinto gets to Parco's legs, there's a big scramble but no score yet as time keeps ticking away. Great scramble, looked incredible, but it was all in Parco's favor as he just needed to run out the clock, which he does! Parco wins 5-1.

157: Caleb Rathjen, Iowa vs Ethan Stiles, Oregon State
1st period: Where is Teemer you may be asking? Well he is not injured, he just didn't travel with the team for this dual. And that is from Tom Brands to JD Rader to me and now to you. Halfway through the first period and a couple of flurries but no one all that close to scoring. And Rick Burk (I believe that is the name of the other announcer) letting everyone know that JD Rader is the South Hamilton High School all-time wins leader. JD says the guys are the mat are better and Rick says well they need to take more shots so we can talk about them. And right on queue there's action! Stiles reaching for a single leg, has his arms wrapped around Rathjen, they scramble, Stiles is behind Rathjen but Rathen still has a leg. Is there control? The refs will call for a review. And it's 3! 18 seconds on the clock, Stiles leads 3-0 and gets into referee's position. And Stiles gets the rideout.
2nd period: Stiles chooses down. He stands and is out after 10 seconds. Stiles leads 4-0. Stiles looking for more, slick single leg and quick finished and he goes up 7-0. They go out of bounds at the 1:03 mark and Stiles is in good shape at the moment. Stiles throws in legs, breaks Rathjen flat and then wrenches a shoulder back and collects three swipes before Rathjen can belly out. The period ends and it's 10-0 Stiles.
3rd period: Rathken chooses neutral and Stiles has to be thinking bonus points. Stiles on a leg, Rathjen avoids the takedown but he does so by going out of bounds and gets dinged with a stall warning. Stiles on a shot but smooth on the reattack is Rathjen and he'll get on the board with a takedown. Immediatley cuts Stiles and it's 11-3. 33 seconds remain and RT is locked for Stiles so it's a 9 point lead at the moment. Shot by Stiles, a little dangerous if you're trying to preserve the major but love the agressiveness. No more points and Stiles, in his debut as a Beaver, gets a major decision at home over Iowa!
Iowa 11, Oregon State 7
We hit the halfway mark so they'll do an intermission in Corvallis, give the fans another chance to hit up the beer tent, and I'll stretch my own legs and maybe also grab a beverage. It's Saturday night, why not?
165: #2 Michael Caliendo, Iowa vs Kekena Fouret, Oregon State
1st period: This is the only rematch from last year's dual. Caliendo won 15-10 a year ago. Fouret meanwhile will likely stay in the lineup all year as it sounds like Matthew Olguin is unfortunately out for the year with an injury. Caleindo founds an opening about 45 seconds into the match and he pounces for a single leg that he doubled off for three. Caliendo started his career at North Dakota State, reaching the All-American podium as a freshman before transferring to Iowa before last season. Fouret stands and escapes. Caleindo right back on the attack, Fouret dive rolls underneath, Caliendo adjusts and gets the takedown just before they go out of bounds. Fouret right out on the restart and it's 6-2 deep in the first. FInal seconds and Caliendo wants more. He gets three more right at the buzzer, 9-2 now.
2nd period: Caliendo underneath. He sits and he's out to make it 10-2. Fouret goes for the front headlock, Caleindo drags out and gets a go behind to make it 15-2. Almost think Caliendo baited Fouret to go for that front headlock but hard to say for certain. Caliendo cuts Fouret and it's 15-3. Caliendo shoots Fouret out of bounds and Fouret is hit for stalling, just a warning. Shot by Caliendo, reshot by Fouret, re-reshot by Caliendo and that will do it. 18-3 final for Michael Caliendo!
Iowa 16, Oregon State 7
174: #4 (184) Nelson Brands, Iowa vs Sean Harman, Oregon State
1st period: Brands now confirmed to be down at 174 for his final season. Sean Harman transferred to Corvallis from Missouri. Lots of heavy hands but no points over halfway through the first period. A good flurry in the final 10 seconds but we're got a scoreless first period.
2nd period: Brands takes down and Harman isn't going to try and ride him. 1-0 Brands. Brands in on a shot, this is the closest to a score as we've come in this match. Harman granbys, Nelson tries to collect those two legs and drag his feet. No three is awarded but Nelson's dad Terry is quick to throw the challenge brick. No takedown confirmed, still 1-0. Back to action. Harman threatened with a nice snap down but they're back to neutral. And the period ends, still 1-0.
3rd period: Harman takes down and Brands is going to try and get that riding time point. Brands has a good ride in and Harman has to build up off his stomach multiple times. Harman gets a restart and needs to get out in 7 seconds. And Brands holds him down for 9! Scoreboard says 1-1 but if Harman doesn't score it'll be a 2-1 win for Brands. 30 seconds. A shot from Harman with 18 seconds. Brands defends. 10 seconds. Brands hit with stalling but it's just a warning. And Brands runs out the clock. Boos reign down in Gill Colusiem but Brands gets his hand raised. He'll take it in a 2-1 slugfest.

184: #7 (174) Gabe Arnold, Iowa vs TJ McDonnell, Oregon State
1st period: Arnold made a few starts for Iowa last year as a true freshman, this will be his official varsity debut. Arnold shows why so many folks in Iowa City are pumped to see him compete this season. He covers a lot of ground very quickly and he goes underneath McDOnnell and then behind him and he collects the first three in under a minute. McDonnell escapes and a minute later Arnold again uses his explosiveness to get another takedown. Arnold leads 6-1 and now starts riding tough. McDonnell is out with 25 seconds left in the period. Arnold shoots McDonnell out of bounds and somehow there's no stall call. Period ends 6-2.
2nd period: Arnold takes down. He stands and McDonnell leads both of his feet trying to trip him back down and that's illegal so Arnold picks up a point. Now Arnold escapes and gets back in on a single. He converts for three more to make it 11-2. McDonnell escapes but Arnold is back in on his legs and now its 14-3. Make it 14-4.
3rd period. Neutral for McDonnell. A takedown for Arnold makes it 17-4, not 17-5 as Arnold cuts him to try and get that tech-fall. Arnold in on a hi-c and there's the conversion for the 20-5 tech!

197: #1 Stephen Buchanan, Iowa vs #5 Trey Munoz, Oregon State
1st period: Here it is, the main event! Buchanan comes to Iowa by way of Oklahoma by way of Wyoming. Munoz comes to 197 by way of 184. About a minute into the period Munoz hits a nice hi-c but Buchanan crotch locks and rolls him through, improving his defensive position. They keep scrambling but eventually go out of bounds. Great exchange but still 0-0. One minute to go in the period. Munoz faking, snapping, and then dives and Buchanan's legs. He's go both heels, Buchanan on his butt, and there's the three. Munoz strikes first. Buchanan escapes quickly and the period ends 3-1 Munoz.
2nd period: Munoz takes down. He's trying everything he can to escape, Buchanan sticking to him like a dog on a bone. Buchanan does get hit with a stall warning at one point while Munoz was on his feet. Now Munoz escapes and it's 4-1, Buchanan short of riding time. Munoz right in on a double, beautiful level change. Nearly a takedown but he ran out of mat. 4-1 late in the second now. Buchanan shooting Munoz out of bounds but Munoz circles to avoid a stall call and the period ends 4-1.
3rd period: Buchana takes down and Munoz immediately cuts him. Buchanan low level blast double and Munoz can't stop the freight train. Buchana now leads 5-4. Buchanan with a nice ride. Munoz gets out though just before RT would've gone over a minute. 5-5 and the crowd is getting into it. Munoz in on a shot, but Buchanan counters and turns it into his offense. There's a takedown and that one was a dagger to the Beaver fans. Buchanan leads 8-5, riding time locked up now with 18 seconds left on a restart. Buchanan is not fatiguing and two big mat returns seals the deal. Stephen Buchanan looking every bit the number one ranked wrestler he is. Great match from Munoz too. Main event lived up to the billing!
Iowa 27, Oregon State 7
285: #11 Ben Kueter, Iowa vs Brett Mower, Oregon State
1st period: Keuter put his football career on hold for a year to focus on wrestling. I also can't help but notice that the NWCA All-Star Classic needs another heavyweight now that Yonger Bastida is out with a knee injury. Anyway, shot from Mower and Kueter has to sprawl. Kueter defends and they're back in neutral. Swing single for Kueter but Mower defends. Aden Attao is out with an injury which he suffered at the U23 Greco-Roman World Championships, where Attao won a bronze medal. No scores as we round the final minute of the period. Kueter with a nice single leg and he finishes this time for the first 3. Mower escapes quickly and it's 3-1. And that's how the period ends.
2nd period: Keuter takes down. He's out in about 15 seconds to make it 4-1. Ankle pick for Kueter, he's got Mower in trouble but Mower dives through and then manages to avoid giving up the second leg. Good defense and no takedown as they go out of bounds, back to neutral. Kueter trying to get a takedown in short time but once again Mower eludes him. On to the final period of the dual!
3rd period: Mower takes bottom. He escapes to make it 4-2. Shot by Mower, Kueter reattacks and slams Mower to the mat for the three points. Pendelton throws the challenge brick saying there was s singlet pull. The officials take a closer look and confirm that there was not one. Kueter leads 7-2. He's riding with a minute to go. And there's a locked hands on Kueter right before Mower escapes. So it's 7-4 and a takedown puts Mower back in this match. Final 30 seconds. Single lef by Mower, he's got Kueter in trouble. Kueter jumps to the corner, comes around and collects the takedown in the final seconds. Thrilling ending and a 104 victory for Kueter!
FINAL: Iowa 30, Oregon State 7
Iowa wins 8 of 10 bouts but Oregon State covers (I think I saw a +30.5 lines for Iowa earlier but please correct me if I have that wrong).
Awesome start to the season. Freestyle season ended on Halloween giving us no time to rest before NCAA wrestling. Can't beat it!
Thanks for reading along. Great environment in Corvallis, great wrestling by the Hawkeys and the Beavers. It's a great day to be a college wrestling fan! Sorry for the typos, see you next live blog!
