Preview
Men: Sixth-ranked North Central finished eighth at the 2024 NCAA Division III Championships. The Cardinals won last year’s dual, 41-3, and are the heavy favorite.
North Central’s Christian Guzman (125) is a two-time All-American, finishing third and second at the past two NCAA Championships. Robbie Bates (285) finished sixth in 2023 and fourth in 2024.
Women: North Central won the 2023 National Collegiate Women’s Wrestling Championships (NCAA Division I, II, III programs), finishing second to Iowa in 2024 by six points. The Cardinals won last year’s dual, 38-3, in 17 minutes.
Returning national champion Amani Jones (124) recently won a bronze medal at the U23 World Championships and is top-ranked this season. Norton has a deep squad, so don’t be surprised if a few of his best wrestlers aren’t in the line-up against Carthage.
The highlight match is 117 pounds if Natalie Majer (Carthage) and Sydney Petzinger (North Central) wrestle. This would be a good early-season test for both wrestlers and could have seeding implications.
NCAA teams can qualify up to 15 wrestlers for the national tournament so don’t expect North Central to roll out its best line-up, but the Cardinals are still the favorites.
