This week marks the beginning of the 2024-25 college basketball season, with most teams opening their campaigns in the last few days. 

A few teams came out extremely hot, including the UNC Wilmington men's basketball team. 

Last night, the Seahawks were firing on all cylinders during their game against Mount Olive, scoring 143 points by the end of the game, and 81 points in the first half. 

Eight UNCW players landed in double figures as the team shot an outstanding 69 percent from the field and 54 percent from downtown.

Here's what to know about UNCW's historic night. 

Did UNCW Break The Record For Most Points Scored?

  • Well, the Seahawks didn't break the record for most points scored in a game, by a team, or combined. But they came close.
  • The Seahawks were close to breaking multiple records from this past year, but one record they now hold is the most points scored by a men's basketball team spanning from late 2023 to early 2024. 
  • The record for most points scored is 186 points from Loyola-Marymount.
  • UNC Wilmington basketball was one point shy of tying the record for most points in a half and was one bucket shy of breaking the record held by San Francisco with 82.
  • The final score of the game saw UNC Wilmington take the win, 143-91, and that also put them in the top ten for the largest margin of victory with 52 points.
