Breaking Down This Matchup
One of the few underclassman on underclassman matchups at the All-Star Classic, this bout features two sophomores who had breakout freshmen seasons. Eight months after Nasir Bailey became the first ever All-American in Little Rock history, he’s giving them their first ever All-Star Classic participant. He’ll be taking on Iowa State’s Evan Frost in a bout that is likely to excite fans—Bailey’s dangerous double leg and top game vs Frost’s scrappiness.
Bailey dominated this match last year when the two met 15-0. Bailey has a nice double leg and is extremely good from the top position with cross-wrist tilts. And that’s exactly what he did to dominate Frost.
However, while I don’t know who will win this match, I don’t think it will be a blowout like last year. That match was in December and Frost was still developing early. He really showed a lot of improvement by the end of the season. Look at his results against Daton Fix as evidence - 11-3 loss in January, 8-5 loss at Big 12s, and razor-thin controversial 2-1 tiebreaker loss at NCAAs. Has he improved enough to reverse a 15-0 tech fall from less than a year ago? That’s what we’ll find out on November 16th.
