What Does This Mean For The Cowboys?
Of the 5 wrestlers who won titles, only #14 Tagen Jamison is a guaranteed starter for the Cowboys this year. Cael Hughes and Cody Merrill were both top recruits but will be in roster battles at 133 and 197 respectively. Hughes will have to upend veteran Reece Witcraft at 133 and Luke Surber is currently the front-runner to start at 197. Oklahoma State will likely take most of the season to sort out these roster battles but this is a great start for both Hughes and Merrill.
Robb and Doucet will serve as backups behind All-Americans this year with Dustin Plott manning 184 pounds and Wyatt Hendrickson wrestling at heavyweight. Regardless of how the starting lineup works out for the Cowboys, winning 5 of 10 weights is a great sign for first-year coach David Taylor.
