Aiello Defeats World Champ Aitmukhan

Jay Aiello pulled off the upset of the tournament in the semifinals when he defeated 2023 World Champion Rizabek Aitmukhan. In that match, Aiello fell behind 8-0 before mounting an incredible comeback to win 11-9. Along with the win over Aitmukhan, Aiello recorded a tech fall over Kazakhstan's Manas Ulan in his quarterfinal bout. Aiello then wrestled China's Awusayiman Habila for gold. Aiello trailed 3-0 in the first period before hitting a short fireman’s putting Habila to his back for the pin at the end of the period. Though Habila isn't as accomplished as Aitmukhan, this was still a great win for Aiello. Habila was a 2024 Olympian and has medaled twice at the Asian Championships - bronze in 2023 and silver in 2022.
