The Nittany Lions won the two premier matchups of the night when #7 Braeden Davis defeated #3 Nasir Bailey and #6 Josh Barr took out #5 Stephen Little. Read the article below for a full recap of these matches and for the complete results for the dual between Pen State and Little Rock.
Davis' Defense Too Much For Bailey
Braeden Davis won a close, 1-0 over returning All-American Nasir Bailey. Neither wrestler was close to scoring in the first period and Davis received choice in the second. Davis earned an escape in just 10 seconds to take a 1-0 lead. Bailey looked slightly more urgent on his feet and forced Davis to back out of bounds a few times but wasn’t able to earn a stall call. Then in the third, Bailey surprisingly chose neutral but Davis did a much better job of staying in the center of the mat. Bailey was unable to penetrate Davis’ defense leaving the Nittany Lion the victor.
Barr Wins In Overtime Over All-American Little
Josh Barr remains undefeated on the year after defeating All-American Stephen Little in overtime. Their match was tightly contested and Little’s defense proved to be especially challenging for Barr to overcome. In the first period, Barr was in deep on a single let but Little defended on the edge of the match to keep the match scoreless. Barr and Little traded escapes in the second and third periods to send the match to overtime. With less than 30 seconds left in overtime, Barr got his hands locked on a single leg and was finally able to finish for the 4-1 win. This was Barr’s second win over an All-American this year and comes just two weeks after Barr’s 11-3 major decision win over Michael Beard.
