Melvin Miller Takes Out #1 Alessio Perentin At Powerade For #1 Ranking

The 2024 edition of the always-competitive Powerade Wrestling Tournament featured five of the nation's top ten ranked high school teams, so it's fitting that the team title was in the balance headed into the finals. With only medal matches to go, Bishop McCort had 138.5 points compared to Lake Highland Prep's 137.5, and Delbarton's 136. That made last bout of the tournament, the 160 lbs final between #3 Melvin Miller of Bishop McCort and #1 Alessio Perentin of Delbarton, especially important.

Not only would Perentin and Miller battle for the top spot in the country at their weight class, the two would look to bring home glory for their teams.

Perentin, a Cornell commit in the class of 2025, earned the number one ranking last week with a title at Beast of the East, but he would have to defeat sophomore Melvin Miller to retain his ranking. The one-takedown match in Miller's favor left plenty of intrigue for potential future matches, but for now, Miller will take over the top spot in the country in next week's rankings.
