Breaking Down The Lee vs Ono Supermatch
Masanosuke Ono took the international wrestling world by storm this year when he won both the U20 and Senior World Championships this year at 61 kg. During that run, Ono was incredibly dominant defeating world champion Vito Arujau by tech fall (12-0) and two-time world and Olympic champion Zaur Uguev, 10-2. Ono looked unstoppable in his world title run and displayed a dynamic offense with the ability to score from any position with spectacular speed and power.

Spencer Lee had a fantastic year of freestyle wrestling that culminated in an Olympic silver medal at the Paris Games. Prior to his 4-2 loss to Japan’s Rei Higuchi in the Olympic finals, Lee won 21 straight matches while recording 13 techs and 1 pin. Lee notably made the Olympic team with two wins over Thomas Gilman, pinning the world champion in the final match of the best-of-three series. Lee is far and away the best 57 kg wrestler in the United States and will undoubtedly challenge for world titles for years to come on the senior level.

Who Wins The Lee vs Ono Supermatch?
So who wins on February 26 - Ono or Lee? No one has been able to match Ono’s power or speed but has he faced someone with the power and defense of Lee’s caliber? Beyond that, Lee has some of the best par terre offense in the world and if he gets on top once, he can end any match. However, Ono has also displayed the same potent par terre offense and will be an incredible test for Lee. Regardless of how the match goes down, it is one of the most anticipated senior-level matches in recent memory and should be an outstanding display of wrestling in Iowa.
