The Matt Valenti 2-on-1 Sunday Workout
The Matt Valenti 2-on-1 Sunday Workout
Flowrestling was able to get 17 different technique videos from the 2X NCAA Champion. I analyzed each video, and though all of his technique is fantastic, it was his 2-on-1 series that impressed me most -it's gold, pure gold! In an effort to do his series justice, I thought I'd create a little weekend training plan for any coach/wrestler who is trying to either implement this series into his game or develop upon the 2-on-1 even more. Valenti's 2-on-1 series is expansive: he covers not only attacks from the tie but defense to the 2-on-1, and furthermore, counters to those who are in the act of defending the 2-on-1. I decided to zero in on his attacks. Here are the attacks to practice on Sunday:
Sunday: you've mastered leg attacks from the 2-on-1. Move on to secondary attacks.
The set ups here are different, and with these moves, Valenti bases what he hits off how his opponent reacts/counters either the tie or an attack from the tie. For example, if Valenti has a 2-on-1, and his opponent counters his farside knee pick, then Valenti will adjust to hit his front headlock. The attacks here come in succession after attempting a given attack. 3 MORE ATTACKS FROM THE 2-ON-1:
