High % Move of the Week: the Stand Up
The stand up is one of the most basic bottom moves around.  More importantly, it is one of the most neccessary and high percentage in folkstyle wrestling.  Here we start by showing how to hit the move, how to work out of a position and into the stand up, and eventually how to drill the stand up after getting returned to the mat.

Hitting the Stand Up
Teyon Ware first shows hot to get in position from bottom position.  He gets in a position to explode off the whistle.  When he hits his stand up, he explodes up by punching his left arm up while stepping up with his right leg.  He makes sure to get hand control and uses his opponent's pressure to come to his feet in good position.  He clears his opponent's grip, then steps out to score the escape.

Kendall shows an alternative method to standing up while being ridden with the claw ride. From bottom, build up to a tripod position, knee slide your near knee out to relieve the top pressure. From your knee slide position, pressure back to the stand up and peel the wrist. You can cut and face your opponent or hip heist out and face him.

Wrestling Out of Positions to Hit Stand Up
This escape worked well for Chase Pami in college. To get away on bottom, he would keep his elbows tight to his side which gave him several options depending on what his opponent does. Here he catches his opponent's cross wrist, keeps his elbows tight then pushes back up to his feet.  Finally, he cuts away and faces his opponent.
Indiana assistant coach, Joe Dubuque, shows a must have skill on bottom. He demonstrates the proper way to change your opponent from one side to the other when he working a spiral ride. He slides his bottom leg through to relieve the pressure and then hip heists to make his opponent switch sides. You should be in a short sit position and immediately begin to attack the top hand.

Coach Clemson shows us the proper way to pop back to your feet after a mat return. This is a must for all wrestlers. You will end up in this position during your matches. Notice how he brings both knees to his chest to lower his center of gravity. He also talks about the importance of turning your outside knee square with the mat.
